Stag Cottage - things to do

Self catering holiday accommodation in Ardnamurchan

There's so much to see and do you'll wonder where the time goes. And it won't be long before you're back in Glen Hurich to catch up on all the things you didn't manage to do first time round.

Loch Doilet

You'll be staying in a National Scenic Area covering Loch Shiel, Polloch and Glen Hurich which together offer some of the most fantastic Scottish scenery, wildlife, forest tracks for walking or cycling and water for fishing or more energetic activities.

  • Take a cruise on Loch Shiel - ideal for sighting the rare white tail eagles - and enjoy the magnificent glens and the ancient St Finnan chapel on Green Isle.
  • Go whale watching off Ardnamurchan Point; there's minke whales, porpoise, dolphin, basking sharks, sun fish and if you're lucky, orcas.
  • Head for the quiet sandy beaches on the northern shores of the peninsula; Sanna Bay , Kilmory, Ockle, Gortenfern - known as "the singing sands" - and Ardtoe are favourites but never busy.
  • Choose one of the 38 tourist board recommended walks along routes which are uncrowded and largely unmarked: so please be prepared. Or, just get the map out and follow your nose.
  • There are 10 cycle routes too, although with so many forest tracks and Fort William - The Outdoor Centre of the UK - so close, you'll be spoilt for choice.
  • Fish in Loch Doilet, Loch Sunart or one of the many other lochs and lochans.
  • See the ancient and historic Mingary and Tirom castles; the vitrified fort on the shore of Loch Linnhe and experience the atmosphere at the Glenfinnan monument.
  • Or just drive in any direction from Strontian, through fabulous glens; along the shores of sea and freshwater lochs stopping off at one of the many attractive villages.

So much to see and do; so little time. So come back again - soon.

Availability is from Saturday to Saturday - throughout the year.
